A new political action committee, the Judicial Fairness Fund, has been formed and has notified the Ethics Commission that they plan to exceed the limits provided in the Judicial Campaign Fairness Act against the incumbent Republican 3rd Court justices on the ballot in November and one Republican challenger. Justices David Puryear, Jeff Rose, Bob Pemberton and challenger Scott Field have all been notified by the Ethics Commission of this declaration of intent to exceed the $5,000 spending limit. Judicial Fairness Fund PAC decision makers are: Chuck Herring Jr., attorney and former Travis County Democratic Party Chair; Virginia Agnew, attorney and Herring’s wife; Hugh Brady, attorney; and PAC Treasurer Donna Beth McCormick. Contributors to this PAC are unknown at this time. This could be a game-changer, and it elevates the 3rd Court races to the top of the heap in contested judicial elections this cycle.
