Texas Civil Justice League PAC Endorses Justice Leticia Hinojosa for Re-Election to the 13th District Court of Appeals (Corpus Christi)

The Texas Civil Justice League (TCJL) PAC today endorsed Justice Leticia Hinojosa for re-election to the Thirteenth Court of Appeals in Corpus Christi. Justice Hinojosa served two terms as judge of the 139th District Court in Hidalgo County before being elected to the Thirteenth Court of Appeals in 2016.

“Justice Hinojosa is one of the best appellate jurists in the state,” said George Christian, TCJL Senior Counsel. “She is highly qualified, fair, impartial, independent, and experienced. She has an abiding respect for the rule of law and has served the people of the Thirteenth Court of Appeals district and South Texas with integrity. She deserves our support for re-election.”

Justice Hinojosa received her bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. After law school she served as a Reginal Heber Smith Fellow of the Legal Aid Society of Central Texas in Austin before entering private practice as a general practitioner and litigation specialist in South Texas. In 1989 she was appointed as Judge of County Court at Law #4 in Hidalgo County, a general jurisdiction trial court, and in 1990 became the first Hispanic woman elected to the bench in South Texas and the third Hispanic woman to be elected as judge in the State of Texas. In 1996 voters elected Justice Hinojosa to the district bench, where she served two terms before returning to private practice. In 2016 voters turned to Justice Hinojosa again, electing her to the Corpus Christi Court of Appeals.

“Justice Hinojosa’s authored opinions have never been reversed by the Texas Supreme Court,” Christian added. “There is also a myth out there that the Corpus Christi Court of Appeals is one of the most-reversed intermediate appellate courts in the state. That is simply not true. In fact, it’s just the opposite. The Court is collegial, scholarly, and down the middle in its rulings. We need to keep it intact, and re-electing Justice Hinojosa will accomplish that.”

Established in 1986, TCJL is a non-profit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to improving the state’s economy by assuring that the courts operate efficiently, impartially, and independently and that the laws governing individual and business liability are fair, reasonable, and predictable.
