LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) –

Representatives of the Republican Party from the seven counties in House District 83 have voted to nominate Lubbock attorney Dustin Burrows to replace Representative Charles Perry on the November ballot as the Republican nominee for state representative for District 83.

The process was initiated by Charles Perry’s resignation from the ballot in order to run for state senate to replace Robert Duncan. Duncan resigned his seat in July in order to take the job of Chancellor of Texas Tech University.

Republican Chairmen from six counties and the delegate chosen to represent the portion of Lubbock that is in District 83 met in Brownfield Thursday and interviewed applicants.

Delwin Jones, John Key, Steve Massengale and Sondra Zigler also interviewed for the nomination. Allen Adkins, who had also expressed interest in the position, announced his withdrawal from the process Wednesday according to Lubbock County Republican Chairman Carl Tepper.

Lubbock County Democrat Chairman Kenny Ketner told KCBD on Thursday that the Democrats have no candidate at this time. The deadline is Monday.
