Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Kem Thompson Frost of Katy as chief justice of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals for a term to expire at the next general election.

Frost is a current justice of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals, a position she has held since her appointment in January 1999. She is an elected member of the American Law Institute and appointed member of the Supreme Court of Texas Advisory Committee. She is a member of the Garland R. Walker American Inn of Court Executive Committee, a board member of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Texas Tech Law School Foundation, a sustaining member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, and a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Frost received two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, and a law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law. She is currently pursuing a Master of Laws in Judicial Studies from the Duke University School of Law.
