Sheppard leads the pack with over $100,000

With just under a month to go before the special election to succeed former State Rep. MarkStrama, D-Austin, the four candidates vying for the spot reported their fundraising totals on Tuesday.

Leading the Democrats was Jade Chang Sheppard, a construction executive from North Austin, who reported having about $109,000 cash on hand after raising more than $23,000. Marine Corps Major and Austin attorney Rico Reyes had raised about $27,000 and had a little more than $38,000 cash on hand. Celia Israel, a longtime Austin progressive activist and former staffer to Gov. Ann Richards, had raised about $48,000 and had about $27,000 on hand.
