Jade Chang Sheppard Announces For Possible HD50 Special Election
“I’m in, whenever Election Day occurs”
(Austin) Last night State Representative Mark Strama (HD50) announced his resignation from the Texas State House, triggering a likely special election. The next uniform election date upon which the Governor could call a special election would be this November, reducing the amount of time til Election Day from eight months to four months.
In April, immediately following Rep. Strama’s announcement that he would not be seeking re-election, Jade Chang Sheppard was the first candidate to announce her intention to run to succeed him in state house district 50.
“I’m excited to run, regardless of when Election Day occurs. I got into this race to reignite the American Dream and that remains my goal,” said Jade Chang Sheppard. “If anything, I have more motivation than ever to be part of the change underway in Texas after watching Senator Wendy Davis’ historic filibuster.”
Jade Chang Sheppard is a graduate of UT, a successful entrepreneur and married mother of two. Her civic and community work incudes being a board member, donor and supporter of organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Texas Lyceum and Annie’s List.
The first fundraising deadline for this race is June 30th with Texas Ethics Commission reports to be published on July 15th.
“Our fundraising has been extremely strong and we have had a top-notch campaign team in place and working for months. Our strong financial and organizational advantages will prove to be huge with a compressed timeline,” said campaign advisor Anthony Gutierrez.
