Senator Leticia Van de Putte announced her resignation as Senator and her decision to run for San Antonio Mayor on November 19th. Former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro has been sworn in as head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Below are those who have announced their intentions to run for the Texas Senate seat being vacated by Leticia Van de Putte.  
The Special Election took place January 6, 2015. Because no candidate obtained at least 50% of the votes, a Runoff Election will take place.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner-elect Sid Miller has named state Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt, R-Lexington, as  general counsel of the Texas Department of Agriculture. Kleinschmidt will assume his new role in mid-January.
